Obituary of Shawnette Adams

Her Way….Her Story Shawnette Claire Adams was born on a wintry Tuesday morning in 1972. On February 22, 1972 Shawnette was born at Cooper Hospital to her parents, the late Jeanette Adams and the late Joseph Custis. She was the oldest of their 4 children. Shawnette was a lovely child and had a very friendly demeanor. She loved art and drama and shared her love with whomever she could. Shawnette also affectionately known as “Zakia” was a lifetime resident of the city of Camden, NJ. She was educated in the Camden City School District. She was a very lovely teenager. Shawnette loved to hang out with the girls and loved to do hair and shoot the breeze with her peers. She was especially devoted to her little sister, Yasha Adams. Shawnette was a kind and loving soul. She was blessed with many talents. She was great at drawing, singing, dancing, and writing poetry. She had the gift of gab and could hold a conversation with anyone. She loved to make people laugh and her smile could light up a room. She was a great lover of people and could make anyone feel at ease and than listen with an ear of empathy. This was one of her greatest gifts. “Zakia” had a great admiration and fondness for her family. We have many memories of us just hanging out and she would always be the life of the party. She was extremely devoted to us, especially her brother…Eugene and her niece….Tanisha. She never parted our presence without telling us, “I LOVE YOU”. After the death of her son, Devin Jr. and later with the death of her beloved sister, Yasha she vowed to show her affection to those she held dear. She was always seen with her dear friend whom she shared her life with for over 10 years, Lamont. Their relationship was dear to her heart. We humbly submit ourselves to God’s Will and will look for Shawnette on Judgment Day in the clouds of angel witnesses gone on before us. She was preceded in death by her darling son, Devin James Jr.; sister, Yasha Adams and niece, Tiffany Adams. She leaves to cherish her loving memory 4 siblings: Eugene Morris, Antwan Stevens, Joey Adams, and Phillip Adams; 3 nieces, Tanisha Adams, Shawnette Adams, and Jeanette Adams; 2 nephews, Carl Hicks and Michael Hicks; Devoted Life-Partner, Lamont Clark; 3 Uncles, Guy Hollingsworth, George Hollingsworth, and Houston Hollingsworth; 3 Aunts, Delores Hollingsworth, Diane Hollingsworth, and Evette Hollingsworth; 2 God-Children, Latoya Baylock and Antwan Lindsey and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
