Obituary of Rose Moore
Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rose R. Moore affectionately known as “Nana” was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 12, 1938, to the late John and Bertha Santos and grew up surrounded by her family and friends in Philadelphia, PA, and later, Camden, NJ.
Rose was a beautiful, intelligent, and strong woman and a beautiful light to all those who knew her. She had amazing joy, wisdom, and a warmth that touched each person whom she came into contact with in her long and beautiful life. In her earlier years, Rose was educated at St. Peter Claver School and Hallahan High School in Philadelphia, PA. She went on to work at Temple hospital for many years. She then enjoyed working at Martin Luther King Day Care where she retired. After retirement, she loved to pass the time watching her favorite television shows, cooking, tending to her flower garden, and spending time with loved ones. She took great pride in her family, whom she loved dearly, oftentimes playing an active role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cared for as if they were her own. What we knew as stubborn, was just Rose being determined to do what she wanted, with an unwillingness to change her mind. That is reflected in a woman who loved and enjoyed life, HER WAY. With a great sense of humor that had a contagious effect on those around her, she eased burdens and comforted souls. With her sense of humor set aside, she was a listening ear to those around her and gave everyone who knew her genuine love, care, and kindness, without them asking. Rose departed this earthly life on Jan 7, 2023, at the age of 84.
Rose was blessed with a large and loving family. She was a dedicated and loving wife, to her late husband Russell Moore of 47 years, and a loving mother of three children: Russell Moore, Barry Moore, Diane Moore, and son-in-law Derek Davis. She was an affectionate grandmother to her grandchildren: Derek Moore, Levenda Moore, and Rashon Horne. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren: Maxim Moore, Derek Moore Jr., Mason Horne, and Amir Horne. Rose was a loving sister and was preceded in death by her brothers Martin, Anthony, and John Santos and survived by brothers Joseph Johnson and Carlos Santos. Rose is also survived by a network of extended family and beloved friends. Rose Moore will always be remembered with warm memories and leaves behind a legacy of respect and admiration from all of her family and friends.
In tears, we saw you sinking and watched you fade away.
Our hearts were almost broken, we wanted you to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping so peacefully, free of pain,
how could we wish you back with us to suffer that again?
It broke our hearts to lose you,
but you did not go alone
for part of us went with you,
That day God called you home.
Message to Mother from Daughter:
I know I won't see you again,
but I loved you until the end.
My heart is broken, your pain has stopped but I know you tried to hold on for us.
I know you were ready to go when you called for your loving husband Russell in the end to grab your hand and guide you to the light.
I know you are safe. I just wish we had more time.
Life goes on we know, but it won't be the same without you.
I love you forever.
I love you for always.
As long as I'm living, my sweet mama you'll be.
