Please share a memory of Darrin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Darrin Boyd Smith, was born Thursday, May 5, 1966 at Cooper Hospital and departed this life on Monday, November 11, 2024 at the age of 58 in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Camden NJ. Darrin attended school in the Camden City School district, graduating from Camden High School in June 1984. He was very intelligent and liked challenges, especially in math, taking advanced calculus classes. While attending Camden High, Darrin joined the wrestling team under coach Thames in the weight class of 98 lbs to 101 lbs. Darrin was awesome at this sport and received several medals and acknowledgements during his wrestling seasons. One of his most memorable achievements was pinning his opponent in 9 seconds, one of the fastest times in his south jersey division. Darrin also was a drummer in the band at Camden High. Game day was always a highlight and an exciting time for all as we watched the band march from the high school down Park Blvd to the football field. There he was, small in stature with a big heart and smile. After high school he went on to also take college courses. Darrin was loved by all. Back in the day he was truly a ladies’ man. My brother was sharp when he stepped out to have a nice time. He used to get his clothes made by a good friend of his. Darrin always held a job and started out cooking in the family restaurant - The B&O restaurant on Kaighns Ave, then with other employers holding a supervisory position such as the Hyatt, Penn Linen, HCSC, Linen of the week and finally Rutgers. It was at Penn Linen that he met one young lady captured his eye and his heart in 1994 – whose name is Nancy Burgos. They dated for several years before getting married on August 26, 2000. Darrin stayed close to Nancy and the family and enjoyed traveling - the most recent Greece. Darrin and Nancy remained happily married until the Lord called his name and wanted him to come home. Darrin is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence J and Luerenda Smith, son Jajuan Burgos. He leaves to cherish, his wife, Nancy Burgos, sisters, Mozella Smith Taylor, Martell Williams and Cynthia Smith Mitchell, brother John Smith (Jackie); brother-in-law Kevin Taylor, sons Brandon Boyd Smith, DaShaunt McLean, John Burgos, daughter, Na’Imah Burgos, nieces Oni Johnson (Ron), Cynthia Jones, Jessica Smith Perkins (Jason), Jessica Taylor, nephews, Bernard Mitchell (Katrina), Quamere Jones, Quazon Smith, Christopher Taylor, Eleven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, a host of cousins, great nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
