Obituary of Renee Burch

Please share a memory of Renee to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Renee Corrine Campbell Burch was born on December 25, 1955 to Bernice Campbell and the late Cornelius Morgan in Philadelphia, PA.  She was the fifth child of eleven brother and sisters. She shared a very close relationship with her siblings. Needless to say, she grew up with a lot of love.

Renee attend Philadelphia Public Schools.   As an adolescent Renee enjoyed having her big sister Geraldine style her hair.  Renee also enjoyed her role as a big sister to Stacey, and Stacey looked up to Renee.  Stacey would frequently go in her big sisters’ closet, as Renee was very stylish, always wearing latest fashions.  Renee nicknamed her younger brother Dwight as “Mac.”  Mac describes her as a wonderful big sister that cared for her younger brother. She would frequently help him with his homework, and more importantly, she taught him how to skate!   She was loyal to her siblings.  Nay was cool. The oldest sister Diane described Renee as a giver, saying Renee was always willing to give. She loved family.

Renee gave birth to her first child, Shekia Latonya Campbell, in 1973.  She welcomed her second child, Lettice Lynette Campbell in 1975.  When her girls were babies she moved her family to the Parkside Section of Camden, NJ. As a young mother, she was patient, loving, caring, and hilarious.  She always dressed her girls alike with Mickey Mouse ponytails and afro puffs.  Her girls were well-kept, stylish and respectful. She made sure her girls were book smart as well as street smart, giving them the knowledge they needed to survive.   She nurtured the individuality of both her girls.  She happily provided all of their needs.  She worked numerous jobs and mostly enjoyed working as bartender.  She was an avid card player, enjoying pity-pat, 25 hundred, and her favorite, casino. Her nieces and nephews looked at her as funny, loving, sharing, caring with a contagious smile and laugher.

Renee faced many adversities in life, but through faith, trial and error she was able to maintain her life.  Failure was not an option.  The final phrase of her life was filled with the overflow of joy and happiness.  She was able to see her girls grow into women; he grand girls became young women; and her beloved great-grandson Kaden was the prince of her life.

To cherish her memory, Renee leaves her mother Bernice Campbell; daughters Shekia Latonya Campbell (Julio Lopez) and Lettice Lynette Campbell; granddaughters Shamaine Rudolph, LaNiyah Lawrence, Lynette Lawrence, and Na’ilah Campbell; great-grandson Kaiden Jones; Sisters Diane Cooke, Pierre Campbell, Geraldine Campbell, Linda Scurry and Stacey Scurry; brothers Stanley Morgan, Kenneth Scurry and Dwight Scurry.  Renee is predeceased by her husband Steven Birch, brother Linwood Scurry and Sister Barbara Scurry.
