Obituary of Melvin Jones
On Monday April 23, 2018, Melvin F. Jones moved from his old house of 1501 North 16th Street to his new home in glory. Melvin was of God’s special seeds, which He planted in his garden of life 71 years ago. He was the oldest of two children born to Frank and Ada Jones, who preceded him to glory. He is also preceded by his only sister Linda B. Randolph.
Peewee as he was affectionately called by his family and friends received his education in the Camden City School System. In 2007 he received his Certificate of Completion as a MIG welder.
He enlisted in the US Airforce in 1966, where he increase his education. He later enlisted in the US Army National Guard where he received an Honorable Discharge in 1984, with the rank of E-5 (Sgt).
In the early 80’s he met and married Alice Landers. From this union came the birth of their only child Tiffany Jones. Alice has preceded him to glory
He later met Anganette Mathews. They remained a couple for the past 20 years until his passing.
He worked for the Pennsylvania department of Social Service until his retirement in 2010.
Peewee loved to cook. He also had a passion of the senior center in Philadelphia near his home.
Melvin leaves to cherish and honor his memory Anganette Mathews, his daughters Tiffany Jones (Travis), Chanel Mathews, two son’s James Mathews, Chandler Merrill. Four grandsons Zane, Zaden, Zahni, and Z’mari. Four nephews Rev Maurice Jr., Dr. Micheal, Elder Craig and Melvin Randolph. Close friend Larry Gurdine.
Melvin will be sorely missed by everyone whose lives he so richly touched.
