Obituary of Howard James Smith

Howard James Smith affectionately known as "Howie" was born to Elizabeth Smith and the late Walter Lee Smith, Sr. on August 17, 1957 in Cooper Hospital, Camden, NJ. He departed this life on January 20, 2016, at Cooper Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Howie was educated in the Camden City Public School Systems. He worked with his son-in-law remodeling homes. Howie was a fun-loving person who acquired many friends throughout his life and was loved by everyone he encountered. He was the kind of person with a big heart that would give you the shirt off of his back. He enjoyed the little things in life such as making people laugh and smile. Everyone who knew him called him "Foxx." Howie was very family oriented and loved to be surrounded by family and friends. His eyes would light up at the sight of his grand and great-grand children. He loved to paint. He enjoyed listening to oldies. Two of his favorite songs were "A Statue of a Fool" by The Temptations and "A Change Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke. Howie leaves to cherish his fond memories his mother Elizabeth Smith, eight children: Darnell Brown (Tameka), Shanika Donnelly (Tom), Rashai Brown (Sharee), Sakeera Cephas ( ), Raheem Lindsey ( ), Deja Gass ( ), Hakie Wynn (Shante) and Keyonna, twenty-eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four brothers: Walter, Stephen, Bobby, Vincent and one sister: Joann Smith-Davis (Harrison). Howie will be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
