Obituary
Obituary of Jennifer Pela
Please share a memory of Jennifer to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1.
A time to be born-Jennifer grew up in Pennsauken, NJ, with her parents Marcellis & Ernestine Shubert and her little brother Marcellis Jr. The family were members of New Psalmist Baptist Church, in Philadelphia, where they attended regularly. Jen went to Camden Catholic High School, going on to graduate from Kean University in 2008.
A time to love- Jennifer met the love of her life, Ozie Pela, at Kean University. If you ask Jen, they met during their freshman year, but if you ask Ozie, it was sometime in their sophomore year. Nonetheless, the perfect union was forged. Jen and Ozie, together, built on their faith at House of Grace Church. Together, they had a passion for exploration and so traveled extensively. They built a home together, had four girls and began to create memories that will last a lifetime.
Jen also had an extensive amount of friends from grade school, to college and those she met in adulthood that she enjoyed spending time with, not to mention her love for making sure she saw her extended family.
A time to gather stones together- Jennifer worked for the New Jersey Department of Youth & Family Services (DYFS), where she was able to fulfill her passion and purpose to serve and help children. She loved the pursuit of knowledge and continued her education at Temple University where she received a Master's in Social Work. She just completed a certification in counseling from Rowan University, wanting to start her own business in the near future.
A time of peace- Jennifer leaves a legacy of love and excellence by example to her husband, Ozie Pela; her daughters, Edore (12), Neriah (10), Zemira (5), & Sarai (5 months); her father, Marcellis (Jewel) Shubert; her brother, Marcellis (Martina) Shubert; her sisters-in-law, Onome (Emmanuel) Emore & Rume Joy (Abioye) Oyeyemi; her brothers-in-law’s, Ufuoma (Esther) Pela, Egbavwe (Tiffany) Pela; a host of nieces and nephews, her best friend Chanique, a loving extended family, friends, and a supportive church community. Jen was preceded in death by her mother, Ernestine Shubert and her father-in-law Dr. Pastor Ona Pela.
