Obituary of Gwendolyn Swain
Please share a memory of Gwendolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Swain was born in Coolidge, GA on November 18,1953. She was the youngest child born to
Gus Swain, Sr. and Louise Marie Swain, both deceased. Gwendolyn was predeceased by all of her siblings, Harold James Hunt, Carolyn Louise Blanks (David) and Gus Swain, Jr.(Loree). Gwen enjoyed her southern formative years until her family moved to Camden, NJ where she was educated in the public school system. Gwen graduated from Camden High School in 1972. From there she attended Glassboro State College. Gwen loved working with and helping others. She held numerous positions doing just that. From the Red Cross, Y.M.C.A to Better Business Bureau to Aetna Health Plans. Gwen gleefully attended to the needs of others.
Gwen was born again, baptized and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in 1994. She was a faithful member of New Life Church Ministries in Pennsauken, NJ under the leadership of her brother, the late Bishop Gus Swain, Jr. There, Gwen continued to serve others. She served the Kingdom of God as a Sunday School teacher, Usher Board President, Hospitality Vice President/President, Culinary worker, Drama Ministry Leader, Pastor’s Aide President and Nurse. No job was too big or small for Gwen. She served whenever and however she could. It was not beyond her to grab a broom or mop when duty called.
After many years of working in the vineyard, Gwen accepted the call into ministry and was ordained an Evangelist. Despite her struggles, Gwen learned to live by faith because she learned to wait upon the Lord. As an altar worker who was concerned about souls, Gwen often encouraged others to do the same.
Gwen’s desire was to be remembered as a willing worker who loved people. She always cherished those who were near and dear to her by showing and telling them of her love for them as often as she could. Hence, she leaves loving and precious memories to be cherished by her two children, LaTanya Tennille Robertson (Darryl) and Christopher Bryaan Swain, Sr (Akera); four grandchildren: Brianna Kearse, Dahmir Robertson, Ashaya Swain, Christopher B. Swain, Jr.; three uncles: Danny Marvin Hunt, Pavo, GA, James Irvin Hunt, St. Louis, MO and Noah Swain, Kennesaw, GA; a sister-in-law, Loree Swain; nieces and nephews: Derrick Jones (Alissa), Gus Swain, III (Syreeta), LaDora West (Charles), Anetra Swain, Maurice Swain (Vania); three very special cousins, Cora Alford, Pastor Sandra Barge and Prophetess Lisa Hunt Walton; and a host of cousins, great-nieces and nephews and friends.
